On February 8, the Greater Austin Foundation for the Deaf (GAFD) proudly hosted an unforgettable evening of theater at the renowned Zach Theatre. In its ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusion, the organization provided tickets for 25 attendees to experience the ASL-signed and captioned performance of The Jersey Boys.

The Greater Austin Foundation for the Deaf extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the incredible success of our Annual Gala! This year’s event, held at the majestic Austin Country Club, was nothing short of extraordinary.
With over 166 attendees, we celebrated community, creativity, and connection.

Martha’s Vineyard Signing Community Revealed!
An insightful presentation featuring three distinguished lecturers who will explore the rich history of the Deaf community at Martha's Vineyard. This event took place on October 3rd, and aimed to shed light on the unique cultural and social aspects that shaped the lives of Deaf individuals in this region.

Spectacular Boating Event
The Greater Austin Foundation for the Deaf (GAFD) recently hosted a spectacular boating event on Lake Austin, offering participants an experience filled with scenic beauty, camaraderie, and fun. The event, which attracted 100 attendees, was a testament to the vibrant spirit of our Deaf community that included CODAs, Interpreters, Friends of the Deaf, and more.

Legacy Event: Dr. Kelly Haygood Stevens
On April 6th, 2024, the Austin community gathered to honor a visionary leader at the inaugural Legacy event hosted by the Greater Austin Foundation for the Deaf. This heartfelt tribute celebrated the life and impact of the late Dr. Kelly Haygood Stevens at the historic German Free School, a landmark lovingly restored by Dr. Stevens himself.
2023 GAFD Holiday Gala
The Greater Austin Foundation for the Deaf (GAFD) hosted its festive Holiday Gala at the Austin Country Club, bringing together over 140 attendees in a celebration of community achievements and aspirations. The event, themed "Sunday Afternoon on the Green," showcased the vibrant spirit and accomplishments of the Austin Deaf Community. Hostess Peggy Ann St. John started the afternoon with a bang!

GAFD donated $10,000 to make this production possible.

Zach's Theatre and Deaf Austin Theater’s Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella
Zach's Theatre (Zach's) and Deaf Austin Theater (DAT) partnership for the Greater Austin Deaf Community received $5,000 support to provide a total theatrical experience. Scenes were performed in a mixture of American Sign Language and Spoken English with captions throughout the Rogers + Hammerstein's Cinderella musical fairytale with the mixed cast of deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing actors.

2022 GAFD Holiday Gala with Oscar Winner Troy Kotsur
The Greater Austin Foundation for the Deaf (GAFD) presented a memorable holiday gala at the Onion Creek Club on December 15, 2022. The fundraising event took over the entire second-floor banquet room with an adjoining dance floor, exhibit area, cash bar, and buffet hall. About 20 different local and national organizations and generous individuals sponsored all the available tables; it was a full house with a great view of the famous 27-hole historic golf course that covers 225 acres of primarily flat rolling hills.
