A Meaningful Easter Legacy Event Honoring Community Leaders

This Easter season, the Greater Austin Foundation for the Deaf hosted a special Legacy Event dedicated to honoring two outstanding individuals in the Deaf community: David Myers and Dr. Steve Baldwin, who have made a lasting impact through their service and dedication. The event provided a meaningful time of reflection, celebration, and gratitude, as community members gathered to recognize those who have consistently given back and uplifted others.

Each honoree was recognized for their unique contributions through mentorship, advocacy, or years of faithful service. Their influence has helped shape a stronger, more connected Deaf community.

David Myers shared his appreciation for the recognition:

I cannot thank GAFD enough for having honored me with the Legends Award. As I sat there on Sunday afternoon, it was one of the most memorable occasions of my lifetime. It is especially touching that this honor came to me 15 years after my retirement and gives credibility to the great staff who worked with me.

Fellow honoree Dr. Steve Baldwin also reflected on the event:

Great speakers, crowd, guests, planners, and friends.”

As the stories of both honorees were shared, it became clear how deeply their efforts have impacted those around them. The room was filled with appreciation, and many attendees expressed feeling inspired by these examples of selflessness and leadership.

Another respected community member, Marcus Myers, added his perspective, noting, “GAFD merits recognition for organizing the Legacy Event, which honored the significant contributions of Dr. Stephen C. Baldwin and David Myers, both pillars in the deaf community.

The Easter Legacy Event was not only a celebration of individual achievements, but also a reminder of the strength and importance of community. By honoring those who lead with compassion and commitment, GAFD continues to reinforce the values that move its mission forward.

This event highlighted the importance of recognizing those who serve, often behind the scenes, and ensuring their contributions are seen, valued, and remembered. GAFD is proud to celebrate these leaders and looks forward to continuing this tradition of honoring those who make a lasting difference.
