Spectacular Boating Event

The Greater Austin Foundation for the Deaf (GAFD) recently hosted a spectacular boating event on Lake Austin, offering participants an experience filled with scenic beauty, camaraderie, and fun. The event, which attracted 100 attendees, was a testament to the vibrant spirit of our Deaf community that included CODAs, Interpreters, Friends of the Deaf, and more.

Despite an unexpected dosage of heavy rain just prior to the event, spirits remained high as everyone gathered at the dock. As soon as we boarded the double-deck boat, the gentle winds of the lake provided a refreshing respite from the humidity, setting the tone for an enjoyable evening ahead.

A special thank you goes out to Dr. Jerry Katz, DDS, who took the lead in organizing this event, along with Paul Rutowski, our Director, Shelley Oishi, our Treasurer, Bobbie Beth Scoggins and Peggy St. John our board members.

The cruise along Lake Austin was nothing short of breathtaking. Attendees were treated to stunning views of the iconic Pennybacker Bridge and the majestic bluffs that line the lake. The boat made a stop, allowing everyone to cool off with a swim—a welcome relief on such a warm day.

No event in Austin would be complete without some delicious BBQ, and we were delighted to have Lotz of BBQ serve up a mouthwatering feast. The combination of good food, good company, and good vibes made for an unforgettable experience.

As we cruised along the lake, we also enjoyed the sight of smaller pontoon boats and admired the beautiful homes that grace the shoreline. It was a day filled with picturesque moments, laughter, and the joy of being together.
